Distance: 7km
Elevation: 900m
Difficulty: Moderate
Closest Town: Smithers
Road Conditions: unmaintained road
About this Trail:

Originally a mining road up the Toboggan Creek valley (does anyone know where the mine was or who built it?). It ascends some 9 km from Glacier Gulch Road to the pass at the top of Toboggan Creek, which gives access to the Silvern Lakes basin. Apparently well-used by motorized traffic (e.g., quads, snowmobiles) the road is nonetheless quite hikable. Note that no motorized traffic is permitted beyond the pass.

Recently, hefty bridges have been built in the first 2km of the road, crossing Club Creek and Glacier Gulch Creek. In dry weather, two-wheel drive vehicles can make it to just past the second bridge, and this cuts some 2 km off the distance to the pass. After the second bridge the road deteriorates significantly, so you'll need to stash your car here and continue on on foot. A convenient fallen tree bridges the next large creek, Toboggan Creek, and after that the road begins its ascent.

There are no views for quite a while, but after 4 or 5 km the impressive Toboggan Glacier is visible across the valley. Quite a few small creeks cross the road. Allow about 3 hours for this 7 km/ 900m ascent, which, unless you do some exploring from the pass, is rather a slog. About two hours to descend.
