Approx Time: Truck drop or Earn the downhill?
Distance: 3 km
Difficulty: Moderate
Closest Town: Smithers
Road Conditions: gravel/singletrack
About this Trail:

The newest addition to an improved trail system, brought to you from a  bunch of fine volunteers and government-funded workers! Thanks guys(pat on the back).

Directions: From Smithers travel 4.7 km up Hudson Bay Mountain Road until you reach Ptarmigan Road on your left.  Follow this gravel road about 600 meters and turn right at Wood Creek Rd.  From here you can head up about 200 meters where there's a *SMBA sign and a small parking area for about 6 vehicles. Start cranking uphill or carry on in your vehicle for 2.7 kilometers until you reach another *SMBA sign on the left, with more room to park just ahead of the sign. Be advised, at certain times of the year, this is an active haul road where radios are highly reccommended for vehicle traffic. Frequencies may change and posting is mandatory. The grade of this road is steep for hauling purposes and blind corners are present. Respect for one another is key, so play safe.

This trail is one of the best in the valley which flows through a pine/aspen forest with beautiful berms and small kickers for your delight. New constructed dirt work and numerous bridges will bring smiles and hoots to all that take it in.  Word of caution: Scope out the landings before you venture the way of the blindman! There are two advanced obstacles, each having a ride-around option. The first being a drop off to a steep landing, second: a wooden ramp to a total committed rock ride with a corner full of boulders! Make sure your gear is tight and if you're unsure of it all,  there's always the ride around which will hopefully not bruise the ego.  Soon after the big rock ride, the trail mellows out and the timber turns from pine to deciduous aspen.  Here you'll find the legs pushin your pedals more and soon come to a junction which you'll want to take a left, then another junction where straight on ahead will lead you back to Wood Creek Road and the right hand turn goes to Whistler Road.   Enjoy it all.......

Great trail

This is a great trail for intermediate and up. You don't have to be a downhiller if you have good brakes and take your time.

The location on Google maps is off and Google maps incorrectly labels Wood Cr road as Hudson Bay Mountain Road. Hopefully, SMBA will produce some bike trail maps soon.

This trail proved a great ride! Nice solid, flowy berms and fun bridges! Because I went with Brent, I earned the downhill!!
But didn't think I deserved the uphill to get back to the truck. Next time i'd like to go the full length of down trail.
