About this Trail: From Smithers head East past the big lady with the timber, cross the Bulkley river bridge and turn left on Old Babine Lake Rd. Follow this road for 5 km until you intersect with Telkwa High road, turning left for 2 km where Driftwood Creek road is on the right. Look for the Driftwood hall which is adjacent to the road and is a great landmark. Travel on the driftwood creek road for 5 km. Driftwood Canyon Provincial Park is 2 Km short of the Babine Provincial Park boundary and from the boundary the road gets rough. Four-wheel drive isn't necessary if care is taken and the road isn't too wet. Although this great park is less-travelled, always steer on the side of caution at blind spots. Look for the trailhead marked by a brown and white sign on your right while heading into the park. The first trailhead will be for Lyon Creek so keep going about 2km further until you reach the next sign on the right which will be for Harvey Mountain. This trail starts out in the timber and continues most of the way under the canopy of balsam and spruce. It's a good trail to take if you want relief from the heat, sheltered by the forest canopy. An old mining road from the past put to good use as a trail, well maintained by the park crew and wide enough for an armada of hikers or bikers. This trail winds up the slopes with a series of 9 switchbacks keeping the lactic acid at bay until it reaches the alpine at 1600 meters. There is an unmarked junction at 4 Km where the road takes off to the right and a single track carries on up the slope to the summit. 360 degree views of the Babine, Telkwa and Hudson Bay ranges are ready for your camera! Enjoy the view and have fun on the way down via boots or tires.
